Seeley Lake events

Annual events in Seeley Lake, Montana by month: the Fourth of July celebration, Loon & Fish Festival, Race to the Sky sled dog race, ski races and fall festivals.

The short answerSeeley Lake's biggest annual events are the Fourth of July celebration (July 3 to 5 in 2026) and the Loon & Fish Festival art show, held in late July in recent years. Winter brings ski races and, in snowy years, the Race to the Sky sled dog race. 2026 dates for several events could not be confirmed, so check with organizers.

Seeley Lake’s calendar is small-town and seasonal: a big Fourth of July, an art festival in late July, ski races and (snow permitting) a sled dog race in winter, and community gatherings in between. Dates move from year to year and some events have gone quiet, so we list what the record shows and flag what is unconfirmed. Before you plan a trip around an event, confirm with the organizer or the community calendar at seeleyswanevents.net.13

Fourth of July Celebration

In 2026 the celebration ran Friday, July 3 through Sunday, July 5: music and games Friday night, a free pancake breakfast Saturday morning, a 2:00 pm parade with a flyover, and fireworks from Lindey’s Lawn. Outhouse Races on July 5 were new in 2026.1 The Seeley Lake Area Chamber of Commerce organizes it; check the Chamber’s Fourth of July page for the next year’s schedule.

Loon & Fish Festival

An art show and festival organized by Alpine Artisans. Recent editions were held in late July: July 19 to 21, 2024, and July 18 to 20, 2025, billed as the 25th annual.23 It began as a Memorial Day weekend event and was running by 1992, according to the Montana Loon Society’s history.4 We could not confirm 2026 dates; the Chamber lists Alpine Artisans at alpineartisans.org (we have not verified that site’s current listings).

Montana Race to the Sky

A long-distance sled dog race held in February. The 100-mile race runs from Lincoln to Seeley Lake, and 300-mile teams pass through Seeley Lake on the way to a turnaround at Owl Creek.89 It depends on snow: the race was canceled in 2024 and again in 2026 for lack of it, and organizers have said they aim to run in 2027.8 Watch local news in the Seeley Swan Pathfinder for announcements.

Winter ski events

The Seeley Lake Nordic Ski Club lists races including the OSCR 50K, plus Skiesta and biathlon events, on the Seeley Creek Nordic Trails. The OSCR 50K was held January 29, 2022; check the club’s site for current dates.1011

Winterfest has traditionally been a late January or February event; in 2020 Seeley Lake Elementary’s Winterfest on February 8 included skating and snow sculptures.7 Current dates were not confirmed.

Fall: Tamarack Festival

The Chamber held a Tamarack Festival (also called Tamarack Brewfest) on a mid-October Saturday at Tamaracks Resort, timed to the larch color: October 13, 2018 and October 12, 2019.56 We could not confirm that it still runs. Ask the Chamber at 406-677-2990.14 For the season itself, see fall larches.

Community events year-round

The Seeley Lake Community Foundation runs the Change Your Pace Challenge each May, hosts Coffee & Computers on the last Thursday of each month, runs glass recycling drop-offs, and lists its annual banquet for August 8, 2027.12 The community calendar at seeleyswanevents.net is the best rolling list; in October 2026 it showed Oktoberfest on October 18, a Halloween event on October 31 and a Community Council meeting on November 10.13

What about an ice fishing derby?

We could not verify a current annual ice fishing derby, so we do not list one. If you are looking for one, ask the Chamber or check the community calendar.
